Resolution for Erick E. Witherspoon, Ed.D.

Psalm 37:23 “ The Steps of A Good Man Are Ordered By The Lord and He Delighteth In His Way.”

Whereas we, the Officers and Members of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, (NABSE) - Western Region extend our “deepest sympathy to the Family of Educator –Dr. Erick E. Witherspoon.”

Whereas Dr. Erick E. Witherspoon leaves an Excellent Legacy of being a Master Teacher from Coast to Coast and around the world.

Whereas Dr. Witherspoon excelled in all Levels of the academic world: Classroom Teacher, Principal, District Administrator and Adjunct Professor in California.

Whereas Dr. Witherspoon’s Career in Education was always under the umbrella of Excellence and he received many awards for his work; including, the San Bernardino County 2007 Elementary Principal of the Year, the Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Association, the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA) 2011 Emerging Superintendent-Leader Award, and the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) 2015 Hall of Fame Award, among many others.

Whereas Dr. Witherspoon served as the Director of Equity for Generation Ready—the nation’s premiere educational professional development company based in New York, NY. Generation Ready partners with parents, school communities, and districts throughout the country to ensure success for all students.

Whereas Dr. Witherspoon will always be cherished as a Favorite Son of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, especially here in the Western Region. He Co-founded the Teacher Leadership Summit and presented Workshops often to our Region, most recently in Seattle, Washington a few days before his untimely death.

Whereas Dr. Witherspoon work uplifted and improved the academic achievement of our African American students from New York to California and all states in between.

Whereas we, the Officers and Members of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, (NABSE) will never forget Dr. Witherspoon’s quest to ensure that our organization thrived, that he spent many long days, working with our students and parents. His Legacy will live on in our hearts, minds, and souls forever.

We the Officers and Members of the National Alliance of Black School Educators – Western Region hereby Declare Saturday, June 20, 2020 as Dr. Erick E. Witherspoon Day.

Finally, Be It Resolved That We Bow In Humble Submission to Our God Who Does All Things Well. He Wanted A Powerful Son, Husband and Educator to Brighten Up His Garden and called Dr. Erick E Witherspoon from Labor to Reward. Dr. Witherspoon – Thank You For Your Legacy of Excellence In Education…..Now Take Your Rest At Jesus Feet.

Dr. Witherspoon’s Life Epitomizes former President Barack Obama’s Quote: “A Change Is Brought About Because Ordinary People Do Extraordinary Things.”

A Copy of this Resolution Will Be Given To the Family, a Copy Kept in the Headquarters of the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) and a Copy Kept in Our Archives.
