The Innocent Brown Girl Project: Creating Brave Spaces For Our Girls
From 2001 to 2017 suicide death rates for Black teenage girls increased by 182%. This data proves that our girls’ social and emotional well-being is not being addressed in our schools. As educators we must ensure that we are doing our part to advocate for our girls while also cultivating their voice to advocate for themselves. Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to engage in collaboration with other educators and advocates to share challenges our girls are facing and learn strategies to best support our girls through these challenges. During this session educators will engage in social emotional learning practices curated specifically for Black Girls. At the completion of this session educators will be prepared to facilitate activities that foster confidence, charisma, and compassion in our girls.
